Additional Livelihoods Program Summaries
Nature Preservation & Environmental Management
Households were provided with pigs and a simple bio-gas machine in order to keep cooking expenses to a minimum and reduce the use of natural wood from near the communities.
Kitchen Gardens & Fruit Tree Planting
In order to assist families to be self sufficient and produce income, PEDA encouraged local families to plant home gardens. Participants were given fruit and vegetable plants. The gardens meant that families could feed themselves and sell excess produce at local markets to earn money.
Local Production Promotion
Materials and equipment for weaving, handicrafts and fish feeding activities were provided to members of a saving/self-help group. Members sold their products at local markets each month. The group, along with a leader/committee and book-keeper, designed the rules of the group and ensured it ran efficiently.
