Awareness Raising in Samouay and Ta-Oy

Background, Scope & Goals

The Rural Infrastructure Program (RIP) is improving rural roads throughout the country including in Bokeo, Luang Namtha, Oudomxai, Xayaburi and Attapeu. The sixth phase of the program started in early 2016 and focused on construction of roads within Samouay and Ta-Oy Districts in the Salavanh Province, connecting 32 villages though all-season rural roads to the main road network. Under the social safeguard component of the program the RIP supports delivery of awareness-raising campaigns focused on human trafficking, HIV/AIDS / STI, and slash and burn.

PEDA is working with the Lao-German Cooperation to deliver the awareness-raising campaign, targeting the village populations in addition to workers. The goal of the awareness-raising campaign is to increase the knowledge of villagers and construction workers in relation to risk-taking behaviors associated with human trafficking, HIV/AIDS / STI, and slash and burn.
